Whether you have a bucket list, make goals (weekly, monthly, yearly, etc.), you may be able to relate to what this post is about. This year will be my 25th birthday, and this marks me being alive for a quarter of a century! I’ve learned so much in my 25 years already, and I know I have so much more to learn about in the future. So this year, to mark this big milestone, I’ve made a list of 25 things I want to do before I turn 25.
No, it’s not my champagne birthday. I just think 25 is a monumental number. 25 marks a solid halfway mark in the middle of my twenties, where I start to leave behind some things I used to do in preparation for the next chapter of my life. 25 is a turning point towards a new way of life, hence me wanting to do 25 things before I get there.
What Prompted This?
When I picture myself at 25, this is how I want to be living my life. These are 25 things that range from simple to challenging that I can start to work towards before my birthday. Like yearly goals, these are things I want to accomplish before my birthday! Keep reading to see the 25 things I want to do before turning 25!
25 Things to do For 25 Years
Over the years I have watched my mom grow gloriously lush gardens, and I want in! I want to try my hand at gardening and stop being known as the serial-cactus-killer. I have recently purchased a new succulent trio and am growing a new pal Larry the Lavender from scratch (stay tuned for updates).
2. Create a List of Accomplishments
Maybe I’m only guilty of this, but I’m horrible at giving myself credit where credit is due. I want to make a list of accomplishments to be able to look back and see all the wonderful things I’ve done.
3. Visit Somewhere in Canada I’ve Never Been
Canada is a huge and glorious country, and sadly I’ve only ever been to my neighbouring province! I’m looking to explore, get out of my comfort zone and try new things. Now just to decide whether to go east or west!
4. Buy My First Car
I’ve been fortunate enough to use my parent’s cars for all of my traveling and day-to-day needs, but I want to have my own car! This is something I’ve dreamed of for so long and now that I’m out of school and working, it will be able to become a reality!
5. Go Back to School
Definitely not full time, but I would love to go back to school part-time. I am a lover of school and all things learning, and fortunately for now blogging is sustaining my desire to learn. I’m thinking more towards the fall I’d like to go back part time to enhance my nursing education with additional courses!
6. Go Camping
My family was never one to camp, and I took outdoor education in high school, but it wasn’t that I met my boyfriend and his friends that I had ever been camping. I would love to spend a few weekends in the summer sitting back, relaxing and camping!
7. Read 25 Books
When I was in university, I had so many readings to do that I didn’t find reading as pleasurable as I once did. Now that I don’t have mountains of readings to do, I’m excited to dive back into reading and re-enjoying my former favourite passion!
8. Become More of a Minimalist
This is something I have desired to do for so long, and now can turn my focus towards it. I want to simplify my life and I believe minimalism is the way to do that for myself!
9. Make 1 New Recipe Per Week
It’s not that I don’t know how to cook, it’s that I could definitely use the practice. I’m fortunate that I don’t live alone and there are meals always being prepared, but I want to expand my horizons and practice cooking, so when I do live on my own I will be better equipped to do so!
10. Continue to Grow my Blog & Have it Flourish
When I started my blog I never thought it would gain the traction that it has. I’m super grateful and thankful each and every day for the path I’m taking with this blog. I cannot wait to see where I am in a few months time!
11. Travel Somewhere Outside of Canada
Again, with school taking up a good chunk of my time over the last 4 years, I haven’t had the funds nor the time to travel. This year I’m looking to go out and explore, and I’m always looking for recommendations!
12. Practice Yoga Again
I used to do a weekly yoga class at my local gym. It was my favourite thing about my week. Unfortunately, work and school got in the way and I was unable to continue to attend. This year I will be looking to get back into yoga and practicing it frequently!
13. Become the Best Version of Myself
Before I turn 25 I want to practice all the things I have been dreaming of doing for a very long time. I want to learn to say no, to put myself first and to make sure I’m happy with what I’m doing.
14. Get a Job in a Teaching Setting
With nursing, there are so many things you can do. I would absolutely love to have my own clinical group of students, or to even teach labs at the school. This would be a way to honour all of the wonderful instructors I’ve had over the years, as well as to branch out and try something absolutely new!
15. Participate in a Marathon
And by marathon I mean something like Mud Girl where you run a 5k obstacle course that is pretty much inside a puddle of mud. This is something I’ve always aspired to do and there is no time like the present!
16. Expand my Blogging Knowledge
I have already learned so much with blogging this far, but I want to learn more. They say if you can teach it, then you really know it. That’s what I’m aiming for. I want to be seen as someone people in the blogging community can come to for tips and advice!
17. Visit the Library More Often
Libraries are hidden gems, and it isn’t financially feasible to purchase every book we read. I’m going to make a point of visiting more libraries and making a habit of it!
18. Live More Intentionally
In order to stay true to myself, this is a must! I’m looking forward to diving into who I really am this year and allowing it to reflect in my every day life.
19. Make Going for Walks a Habit
I find that getting out in nature is soothing and grounding for me, and would like to do more of that this year! I love walking and find it good for my body, mind and soul. I’m looking to make more of a habit of it this year.
20. Spending More Time with Friends and Family
I want to make more of an effort to spend time with friends and family. It can be so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, and go long periods without seeing those close to us. I want to make more of an effort to enjoy the presence of my family and friends.
21. Saying No to Things I Don’t Enjoy
I think we all get stuck in a pattern of doing things we don’t like because it’s easier than finding a way to get out of them. I want to live more authentically and say no to things I truly do not want to do. Life is short and I want to enjoy every minute of it.
22. Decide on a Tattoo
I have been wavering back and forth forever, and can’t seem to commit to one location or another. Before I turn 25 I’m going to stop wavering, finally make a decision and take the leap I’ve wanted to for years.
23. Finish up All the Series on Netflix I’ve Been too Lazy to Finish
Time to clean up my Netflix and finish all the shows I watched half the seasons of. It’s time to learn how these series end and I need to get ahead! No more watching new things until I finish these off!
24. See a Movie on my Own
I’ve never gone to the movie theatres before! Before I couldn’t stand the thought of doing this but as I get older, I’m becoming more comfortable with my own presence and want to give this a try!
25. Do a Massive Belongings Clean Out
No mercy! I want to clean out everything I have been holding onto that I clearly don’t need anymore. Clothing, books, things. All of it needs to go. I need to be brutally honest with myself and get rid of all of these things!
