Mindset is Everything
Of course hard work, determination and the need to fill your deepest desires are pretty powerful drives, but everything starts with your mindset. If you believe you will succeed, then you’re halfway there. If you believe you’re going to fail, then you’re also halfway there. Inspired by Jen Sincero’s ‘You Are a Badass’, her principles have inspired me to take 5 big downer thoughts about blogging, and make you see how your mindset is hindering your results.
The key to unlocking all of your wildest dreams begins with believing that you can. Below, we’re going to raise awareness to 5 limiting beliefs you may not notice you had on repeat in your mind. We’re going to bring those beliefs to light, re-write them, and implement them into building a positive, goal driven mindset.
5 Limiting Beliefs that are Stopping You From Becoming a Bad-Ass Blogger
1. My blog will never take off like [insert blogger’s name] !
Of course when you first start it can be so overwhelming with figuring out which host to go with, which niche you’re going to focus on and all of the content planning. You may have stumbled across a blog that is what you aspire for your blog to look like, and think how in the heck am I going to make that happen. You’re overwhelmed, scared, and completely unsure of how you’re even going to start.
Instead of thinking that your blog will never look like [blogger’s name] (which may I add, you don’t want to completely copy someone, but it’s totally okay to be inspired by someone and strive towards creating a kick ass blog like they have!), change the script.
Replace this belief with ‘In time, I too will have a gorgeous, bountiful blog’ and put it on repeat! Say it to yourself when you wake up. In the shower. Say it over and over again! Write it down! Because the truth is, by adopting this mindset and truly believing it (that’s the other trick), you will manifest what you believe!
2. No one is even going to read my blog!
If you keep thinking that, you may as well close up shop because that’s what will happen. The truth is, whether you think no one’s looking at you, someone is going to read your blog. Replace ‘no one is even going to read my blog’ with ‘my blog will be read and loved by loads of people’.
When you change your mindset to ‘my blog will be read and loved by loads of people’, you not only change the way you go about promoting your blog, you also go about the way you write your blog. Limiting beliefs hold us back from being our true self, reaching our full potential and creating the life we want. Re-writing our inner dialogue changes how we do things, how we see things, and how the world around us responds to us.
3. I can’t do this. No one even knows my blog exists.
To be fair, when you start your blog, only a handful of people will know your blog exists. But like the point above, holding onto this limiting belief will keep your blog hidden from the world. Change this to ‘I CAN do this. I will make my blog well known’. Again, this will change the way you approach writing for your blog, promoting your blog, and the way you share your blog with the world. Keeping the mindset of ‘I can do this’ even when times get tough will get you through the trials and tests blogging will put on you.

4. Yes I have a blog, but it’s really nothing and it’s kind of stupid.
You may not use those exact words, but how many times have you demoted your blog to someone you know? A friend stumbles across your blog and you’re too embarrassed to own up that you started a blog? Someone compliments you on a post and you shake your head because you didn’t love that post. When you’re first starting out it can be hard to own the fact that you’re creating a better life for yourself, and the fear of other’s judging you is greater than the dreams of what good may come. Change this response to ‘yes I just started my blog and I’m so excited to see where it’s going to go!’
Changing that nervousness into excitement will not only change the way you approach your blog, but will also change the way others view you. By instilling confidence in yourself, you’re allowing others to have confidence in you. Stand up for yourself, own your damn blog and make big things happen!
5. I’ll never make any money with my blog.
No you won’t, not with that attitude! If starting a blog with the intent to monetize is one of your wildest dreams, don’t settle for less! Whether it’s going to be your sole career or your side career, don’t limit yourself to thinking you can’t make any money.
Ask yourself: why am I saying this? Why am I holding onto this insecurity that I’ll never make any money? Do I not think I’m worth making money?
Change this hard no into a ‘I can and I will make money from my blog. Money will come my way. I’m going to make this happen’. Write this down and repeat it every damn day. If you’re even thinking about monetizing your blog, just go for it. Having a little inkling sitting in the back of your mind like an un-scratchable itch will drive you crazy. And frankly, life is to short to not follow through on your wildest dreams!
