Keeping That New Romance Magic
Often when we first start in a relationship, a lot of our dates centre around going out and spending money. Dinners, coffee dates, going to see movies etc. The excitement of a new relationship fuels the desire to do more all the time. While there’s nothing wrong with this excitement or doing fun things, over time it can put a strain on our wallets and lifestyles.
Most of us are in a spot in our finances where it’s not feasible nor practical to continuously shell out money on dinners and activities. While it’s still important to treat ourselves, we can also find cute dates to go on that won’t break our budget!
10 Adorable Date Ideas For the Ultimate Budget-Friendly Date Night
Below you will find a list of 10 adorable date ideas that won’t break the bank! Try them out to save some money and still have a blast with your partner!
1. 5 Minute Picnic
I call this the 5 minute picnic because it only takes 5 minutes to put together! Pick a day where the weather is nice, grab a blanket or a towel and then head to the grocery store! Pick up a few things that can be easily eaten (think salads, cheese, nuts, candies etc.) from the grocery store. Head over to a park and ta-da! You can enjoy the nice weather, take the time to catch up and people watch, and even go for a walk when you’re done! You’ll have all the benefits of eating outside on a patio without the patio price tag!
2. Movie Marathon With a Twist
This combines two of my favourite things to do: dig in the 5$ movie bin at Walmart and watch movies! Head out to Walmart with you and your partner (or anywhere else that has a 5$ movie bin) and sift through the bin. Each of you pick a movie that you either love or haven’t seen but wanted to, and then head home to watch! This is so simple to do and you will have the added joy of sifting through the bin and seeing what gaudy movies exist! I love these bins because they’re usually older movies, so you never know what you may find!
3. Let Groupon Decide
Another one of my favourite things to do! Groupon has so many fun outings at discounted prices! Theres brewery tours, concert tickets, massage packages. Go on Groupon and take a sift through with your partner (or surprise them!) and pick out an activity you’d both like to do, and then viola, purchase it! This is my go to when I want to switch things up but don’t want it to cost a fortune!
4. Make Dinner Together
Classic, but tried and true! Pick a recipe you both love OR try something completely new that you may have seen on Pinterest! Set time aside, turn off the TV and put your phones away and COOK. Way more budget friendly than hitting up a restaurant, and you may just find a new favourite dish! If you’re looking to be adventurous, check out some recipes I have pinned here.
5. Go For a Drive
Again, another classic! But tell me, what is better than an open back country road, your loved one, some blasting music and a golden sunset? (Maybe adding a few snacks). See where the road takes you and just GO.
6. Visit the Humane Society
If you’re able to volunteer, go for it! If not, they often will let you visit and play with some of the animals! What could be better than watching your partner hold the snuggliest little kitten? Warning, you may feel a compelling urge to adopt after this date!
7. Get Outside and Get MOVING
Skiing, snowboarding sledding or skating. Rollerblading, walking, hiking, dancing! Go out with your partner, embrace the outdoors and have a blast! You may very well get some exercise in without even realizing it. Let your inhibitions melt away and just enjoy the day! Some of my favourite non-exercise activities that can easily be made into date ideas can be found here!

8. Be a Tourist in Your Own City
Go walk around downtown and play tourist for the day! Visit all the sights your town is famous for! People watch, take pictures, enjoy the day! Visit a restaurant considered to be a local gem and treat yourselves! Do things you have never done in your own city!

9. Game Night!
Get a few snacks, maybe a few bevs, and a few good games that you both like and challenge each other! Spend a cozy night in playing all your favourites and feeling your competitiveness come out!
10. Star Gazing
Grab a blanket and your partner either head out into your backyard to set up camp! Even better if you can drive a little bit out of the city to see the stars better! This also works for sunsets and sunrises. The only thing required is a blanket for you to enjoy each others company, along with the beauty nature has to offer!
Have you tried any of these adorable date ideas? What’s your favourite budget-friendly go to date? Let me know in the comments!

This is so helpful! Making dinner together with some music in the background is one of my favorites. My partner is a better cook than me and I love to watch him cooking while I help him with chopping. Stargazing is another thing we do till I hear him snoring😂😂. He’s not much of a stargazer😁 Thanks for sharing this post.

I love the idea of being a tourist in your own city! My hubby and I did a Segway tour (which probably wasn’t exactly cheap cheap), but was so fun and everyone we passed thought we were tourists! But we’ve also done free historical walking tours which are so fun and educational! Thanks for the awesome ideas!
