Hot Girl Summer: What It Is & How this Mindset Will Change Your Life
You’ve probably heard the phrase ‘Hot Girl Summer’ being thrown around quite a bit over the last few years, and if you haven’t, welcome to the party. Back in 2019, Megan Thee Stallion coined the term and released the song Hot Girl Summer, and since then, you can’t even think about the season without having Hot Girl Summer come to mind. For the last two summers, women on the internet have been throwing around the term, and essentially hyping themselves up to have a Hot Girl Summer (HGS). Of course, this kind of begs the question – what is a Hot Girl Summer? I’m going to share with you what it means to have a Hot Girl Summer, and how this mindset will change your life!

What Is a Hot Girl Summer?
I’m so glad you asked. There are so many misconceptions around the phrase Hot Girl Summer, so I’m going to help clear that up right now! HGS is a mindset, a spirit, a feeling. It’s the intention to go out there and have a summer filled with fun, adventure and being your best self – whatever that looks like for you. There are no official rules to HGS, having a HGS is making it what you want it to be.
What a Hot Girl Summer IS
Being the best version of yourself (your healthiest, most authentic you, whatever that looks like for you).
Taking care of yourself (getting enough sleep, nutrients, exercise and more to ensure you’re being your best self).
An affirmation/phrase to hype yourself up to try new things, step outside of your comfort zone and challenge yourself.
Living out your wildest dreams, staying authentic to yourself and having a blast – wherever you’re at in your life.

What a Hot Girl Summer Isn’t
An excuse to shame or exclude anyone from having a HGS based on their appearance, orientation, goals etc.
A set of rules you need to follow to make sure you’re ‘doing it right’
A specific body type, weight, relationship status, job, hobby, clothing style, diet etc.
An explanation for self-destructive behaviour that doesn’t enhance nor improve your life.
I THink We’ve Got It!
Okay, so now that we’re all on the same page and understand that a HGS is a loose term to describe doing what’s best for you, stepping outside of your comfort zone and enjoying yourself, we can move onto why this mindset will change your life (because it absolutely will).
Why This Mindset Will Change Your Life
When you take Hot Girl Summer and change it from an event to a mindset, you’re actively working at changing the way you wire your brain and live your life. Choosing to put yourself first and and live your life as the unapologetic version of yourself has profound effects on your thoughts, actions and outcomes.
What Happens to Your Brain
Let’s get a little science-y shall we? A large part of your memory formation and functioning has to do with neurons (cells) and synapses (spaces between the cells that allow the cells to connect). Think about these as little pathways that are formed in your brain. Like you would walk along a grass path, at first when the path is forming it’s tough to get through, not very clean cut. Over time, if you continue to walk through that path you will eventually wear down through the grass and it will be a clear formed path.
This is the (very) simple version of how pathways and memories in your brain are formed. Your brain is capable of reinforcing existing pathways, as well as creating new pathways.
Neuroplasticity is the term used to explain the brain’s ability to adapt and change. This means it can form new connections and pathways, as well as change and re-wire existing ones. With all of this potential to re-wire your brain literally at your finger-tips, you can actually change your mindset, and thinking patterns!
What does this mean? (With time and conscious effort) you can literally change the way you think, which in turn effects every single thing you do in your life. While changing your mindset isn’t an overnight thing, actively working towards changing your thoughts to be more positive, empowering and growth focused will have profound impacts on your life. Meaning, your HGS mindset (doing what’s best for you, challenging yourself to do better, embracing the good in your life etc.) will change your mind for the better.

Change Your Brain, Change Your Life
When you actively start putting yourself to work and choosing to cultivate a better mindset, you’re telling yourself and the universe you believe good things are possible for you. Your mindset is a direct portal to every one of your wants, dreams and desires. Putting yourself in a position to better your mindset opens doors for you to welcome greatness into your life. This directly goes hand in hand with manifestation, gratitude and raising your vibration, all of which attribute to living a life of abundance.
manifestation
Manifestation is the act of connecting with a higher Power or The Universe to express your desires and wants with the intention of making it your reality. While there is more to manifesting than simply asking for what you want and expecting it, the idea is that by focusing on what you desire you’re bringing it into your life.
