We all know the benefits of sporting face sunscreen (helps prevent skin cancer, protects our skin and helps prevent signs of premature aging), but did you know you’re supposed to be wearing it all year long? Even throughout the winter, you should be sporting sunscreen (it doesn’t have to be a super high SPF, just enough to protect your skin on a day to day basis). The face sunscreen I swear by (and sport all year long) is La Roche Posay’s Anthelios Sunscreen. You may have heard me rave about this product before in other posts, and below I’m going into details of the specs and why it’s worth every penny!

Sunscreen Best Practices
How Much
When it comes to how much sunscreen you should be using a nickel sized amount of sunscreen on your face. (While tinted moisturizers and foundations can contain SPF, ideally you’ll want to put on sunscreen in addition to these layers).
Ideally (if we’re talking summer months) two tablespoons/one shot glass worth of sunscreen for your face and body, is adequate.
How Often
Every single day (yes, even in winter)! Ideally applying sunscreen 30 minutes before you head outside, and reapply every two hours.
SPF
What SPF (Sun Protection Factor) should you be using? Skincancer.org suggests SPF 15 can be used for daily use, while SPF 30 or higher is more for outdoor activities, and highly recommended if you work outdoors.
You should be looking for a sunscreen that is broad spectrum (protects against UVA/B rays), and brands that receive the ‘Seal of Recommendation’.

LA ROCHE-POSAY: ANTHELIOS ULTRA-FLUID SPF 50+ FACIAL SUNSCREEN

This is the sunscreen I swear by every single day (all year long)! Here are some of the reasons I went with this brand and formula:
Non-Comedogenic Formula
Non-comedogenic products are designed to not block your pores (this is what I love most about this product!), meaning fewer breakouts! The formula itself is oil free and feels ultimately weightless once applied.
This formula is also paraben and fragrance free (if you want to learn more about parabens and what they do, you can read here).
Versatility
Whether I apply it before my makeup or just over lotion, it’s quick to absorb and doesn’t affect the quality of my makeup.
It also doesn’t leave my skin oily or shiny, which I find some face sunscreens can do. (For reference, I have oily/combination skin)
Price Point
LRP’s Anthelios Sunscreen comes in around $29.00 (CAD), in my opinion it’s a little pricier than most drugstore face sunscreens (but cheaper than most items at Sephora).
Overall, it’s not a huge dent in the budget and the product lasts a few months usually (depends on the season – summer I usually use more as I reapply throughout the day if I plan on being outside).
Behind the Brand
This product is recommended by the Canadian Dermatology Association as recognized sun protection (meaning products receiving this stamp meet a standard to provide effective sun protection).
This product also tested under marine conditions, and the brand itself is committed to respecting marine life (this means they work with external corporations to formulate sunscreens that are both safe for humans and the environment)!
Recap
Overall, this product is affordable and easy to add into your daily skincare routine. Sunscreen is something we should all be remembering when it comes to venturing outdoors (yes, even in the winter) to protect ourselves from the damage that can occur.
This is a product I regularly repurchase and swear by, and is something that has made its way into my daily skin care routine.
